Grace Jones — The Unrelenting Icon

There are icons, and then there’s Grace Jones.

That’s why she belongs in my Icons collection. She represents everything I’m drawn to artistically: the collision of punk attitude, Pop Art boldness, and expressionistic chaos. She’s a living composition of sharp lines, visceral energy, and unapologetic defiance.

The Process

This isn’t a sketch over a photo. This is construction. I started in NomadSculpt, building a 3D head purely from 2D references—translating flat images into volume and form. Once the structure held its ground, I moved into Procreate to paint the surface texture and facial features directly onto the model.

From there, it into Blender for lighting and texture experiments until the mood felt right. Finally, I exported to Amadine to generate the clean 2D vector file that drives the print production. It’s a long-winded route compared to simple editing. But it means every line is mine. There’s no photograph behind this—it’s entirely built by my hands and my judgment.

The Design

My Grace Jones illustration is an expressionistic, pop/punk explosion — bold colour, raw mark-making, and that unmistakable gaze staring straight through you. Available now on:

  • T-shirts — unisex and women’s fit
  • Vests — unisex and women’s fit
  • Hoodies — unisex and women’s fit

…unapologetic defiance.

So here she is — my tribute, rendered in the style she deserves.

Each garment comes in colour variants designed for both black and white base tees, so you can pick the version that hits hardest for you.

She doesn’t sit comfortably in ANY category. She destroys ALL categories and builds something fiercer from the wreckage. Singer. Model. Actor. Performer. Shape-shifter. Force of nature. Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica in 1948, she stormed out of the island and into the world with a presence so singular it rewired fashion, music, and visual culture forever.

I’ve got a personal pull here. I spent time in Jamaica myself — learning wood-carving, absorbing the energy of that place — and Grace carries that raw Caribbean fire in everything she does, even when she’s draped in sharp tailoring and a flat-top that could cut glass.

And the visuals? Unmatched. The androgynous power suits. The angular face that artists have been trying to capture for decades. The performances where she’d hula-hoop in a corset well into her sixties, daring you to look away. You won’t.

I’ve seen her perform live — not once, but several times. And I say this as someone who spent the 80s DJ’ing in London’s most iconic clubs, who has seen everybody grace a stage: Grace Jones is one of the most consistently electrifying live performers I’ve ever witnessed. Every single time. No off nights. No phoned-in sets. Just pure, commanding, unrelenting presence. She doesn’t perform at you — she takes hold of the entire room and reshapes it around herself.

Grace never let anyone define her. Wear her your way.
