  • Scattered Mind

    Scattered Mind

Scattered mind is the name of my latest project. It’s a VR art experience which explores the workings of the creative mind. I’m currently looking for funding to finish this project that was started as part of my artists residency at Fusebox in Brighton.

I’m particularly interested in how nature can offer a refuge to creative people, in particular those with neurodiverse conditions such as ADHD & Autism as well as mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

You enter into a spooky woodland, birds singing and mist falling. The trees are part human. Metamorphosis is also something of interest to me – the connection between us and the natural world. How plants and animals communicate with us – if only we could learn to listen. Scattered Mind encourages us to do so.

You head towards a giant tree, full of gargoyles and sculptures. Along the way you can throw seed bombs that will allow more flowers to grow in the woodland. Enter the tree and look up to see a staircase that takes you up inside the tree.

Within each of the branches is a new world to explore. These include the Classroom of Misfits. A classroom that teaches you lessons about acceptance, bullying and exclusion.

In here you can read a book about the witches who were persecuted and killed in Scotland during the witch hunts. Just for being different. You can throw chairs and paper balls at the teacher or just sit and listen to the wisdom on offer.

There are many other worlds to visit, icluding the Museum of Unfinished Projects, The Opium Den of Distraction – complete with is own Come Down Slide and many others.

    A World without Humans

This was my first landscape drawing in Tiltbrush. As I’d just started in VR drawing, I went for a cartoony style. I loved the ability to zoom in so I was standing on a flower petal, drawing the swirl in the middle of the flower. A minuet later I was zoomed out, drawing the tree with a single brush. I love the freedom of drawing in VR.

Angie’s Pool DeckingĀ Design wins gold!

Home Counties Pools and Hot Tubs took the gold medal for the swimming pool installation that was co-built with EH Treecare Ltd and designer Angie Taylor

Home Counties entered the awards. In this picture the design wins gold award in the Domestic Above-Ground Pool category at the third European Pool & Spa Awards. Hosted by the European Union of Swimming Pool and Spa Associations (EUSA), the award had stiff competition from across the continent.

Craig Trusson (pictured, far left), who co-owns Home Counties with his wife, Gil, was ecstatic to receive such a high honor. ā€œWe are thrilled with our European win,ā€ he gushed. ā€œTo be highlighted in the EUSA awards alongside such strong competition across Europe is a significant acknowledgement for our company and our entire team.ā€

The winning installation was eligible for the award having previously taken the gold at the British Pool & Hot Tub Awards.

The clean lines and natural tones integrate with the surrounding environment, helping to make this Endless Pool installation a gold-standard winner! Designed by Angie Taylor and Ed Haunton of EH Treecare Ltd. The pool was installed by Home Counties Pools and Hot Tubs. The decking and pool cladding was built by EH Treecare Ltd. The installation won gold at the British Pool & Hot Tub Awards, and now has taken the gold again at the European Pool & Spa Awards.

This Performance Endless Pool was featured at the 2013 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final London before being purchased for one familyā€™s swimming and recreation. The Perfomance model boasts a larger, smoother, and (at top speed) faster current than the Original Endless Pool. Its compact frame makes it more affordable to heat ā€¦ even in Brighton!

EUSA represents over 3,000 swimming pool and spa companies across Europe; a panel of top industry professionals from EUSAā€™s membership juried the awards, which were handed out in Barcelona earlier this month. The organization was founded in 2006 to promote unity among the members of the wet leisure industry across Europe.

  • Elgato Thunderbolt Dock

    Elgato Thunderbolt Dock

[et_pb_section][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text]The Elgato Thunderbolt Dock really is a desk-changer! It’s not often I write blog posts about hardware but this little gadget has eased my worklife considerably over the past few weeks and I’d like to sing it’s praises, perhaps it can help ease yours too. It’s a simple, elegant little box that allows you to connect multiple devices to your laptop or desktop computer via one Thunderbolt cable. Simply connect your chosen machine to the back of the box using the supplied Thunderbolt cable. The back has HDMI for connecting your external monitor. I use this to connect my NEC MultiSync PA271WB 27 inch LCD and get the full 2560 x 1440 resolution display fed from my humble 15″ Macbook Pro. It also adds an extremely useful Gigabit ethernet port to my MBP so I don’t have to rely on wireless for networking – this is invaluable for me as I live in an area where we still have ADSL broadband – frustratingly slow and unreliable. thunderbolt-thunderboltdock-plentyofpower There are also other thunderbolt ports and a couplf of USB ports on the back fro connecting other devices. The box has power too so can be used to charge up your iPod or iPhone as well as powering bus-powered devices such as hard drives. There’s also a free utility that, when installed, provides your Mac support for high-powered USB. At the front end is another USB port and Stereo audio in and out ports. These are useful for conference calls but I can alos use these to do some quick screen captures for my tutorials. Just attach a decent pair of headphones and my Countryman mic and I’m off! If I need more control over my audio its easy to connect my USB Pre 2. Sometimes the simple things are the best and this little unassuming box is really the best. Previously I had a spaghetti-pile of cables running from the desk to my Macbook Pro. Each time I went there I had to plug and unplug various peripherals. Now my life is simpler and uncluttered, just one simple elegant cable is all I need. I’m a happy geek![/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
