Life’s a Beach

“I grew up on the North East coast of Scotland, overlooking the Moray Firth. My family has lived there for generations—I can trace them back to Pennan, the village made famous by Local Hero, in the 1700s.

Pennan – Scotland

My 4th great-grandfather was John Milne of Glenlivat. Born a shoemaker, he abandoned his trade to become a wandering poet. For 30 years, he traveled to local fairs and markets across Scotland, reciting his songs about illicit whisky and socialist politics to farm servants and laborers. He was a true grassroots artist, selling his work directly to the people.

“Altho’ I cannot climb Parnassus,
I wish success to working classes,
Both far and near;
May honest men and bonny lasses
Weel thrive the year.”

The beaches inspired me as a child—the best playground imaginable. After leaving Scotland, I spent time on Jamaica’s north coast, learning wood-carving. So it’s only natural I’d end up in another seaside town.

Now I’m based on England’s South Coast, between the white chalk cliffs and vibrant Brighton. It reminds me of home, but with warmer skies and a more diverse population.

Setting up my market stall here feels like a continuation of that family legacy. Like John Milne, I travel to the market to share my art face-to-face, connecting with locals and visitors just as he connected with his audience.

My Seaside Collection reflects this passion. The wild, untamed nature of the sea. Different every time you experience it. Explore the designs that celebrate all the South Coast offers.”
